Happy New Year everyone! We just wrapped an almost 3 month long journey shooting a South Indian feature film in Dubai and Thailand, which literally ate up all of our energy (the reason our blog hasn't been updated). We originally planned on updating the blog weekly, but we quickly realized that was a bit too ambitious. The shoot consisted of 7-day shoot weeks with 10-12 hour days. We cant go into too much detail on the content of the film because it is currently still in production in India & no where near complete. We were specifically hired to DP the material in Dubai and Thailand to give those certain segments of the film a more “edgy” look combined with the traditional “beauty” look of South Indian films. There is word that production is hiring on one of the top Indian DP’s to shoot the beauty scenes in India. Below are a few screenshots

Bringing a DP/crew from the US onto a South Indian production is something that has never really been done so we are very excited to have been a part of it. This is also the first South Indian film to be shot on the DSLR format so we needed a very skilled and specialized team to take on the task. That being said, we were able to fly over 6 other crew to help us knock this out. That included: Steadicam operator, 1st AC, DIT, B-Cam operator, Gaffer, and Key Grip. Having an English-speaking gaffer and key grip within our department was very crucial for us. In Thailand we had several grips who spoke maybe 3 words of English. Overall, there were about 25 Indian crew, 10 Thai crew, and 8 American crew, so you can probably imagine the difficulty of communication. By the end of the shoot, all crews communicated very well from a mixture of broken English, sign language, and facial expressions. Our shooting schedule was as follows:
10/5 – 11/20 we shot all of our coverage in Dubai.
11/20 – 12/15 we shot coverage in Pattaya & Khao Yai, Thailand.
Everything we shot was on the Canon 5D and Canon 7D. Next Level Pictures, Kessler Crane, Letus, and Zacuto supplied all of the camera gear/support. On a typical day, we would have 4 complete cameras built up and running. A-cam for sticks and handheld, b-cam for sticks, handheld & Cineslider, c-cam for steadicam, and d-cam for the Kessler Crane. Having 4 rigs was so crucial for us in order to shoot many of the complex scenes while maintaining lighting continuity. Having 4 rigs also helped us out a lot when certain locations only allowed us to shoot for a couple of hours. It simply wouldn’t have been possible any other way with the coverage that we were getting. Check out a few Behind the Scenes stills below.

Overall, this shoot was an amazing experience despite the craziest shooting schedule we've ever partaken in. On the bright side, it made us all machines lol. We got to meet some of the coolest, most down to earth people along with getting to shoot in some of the world’s most exotic places. This will for sure be one of those projects we will reminisce about years down the line.
