This past week I shot 3 commercials for my favorite powdered drink company, Emergen-C. This was my first time shooting for Passion Pictures-Paris, and I don't think it will be the last. One of the most laid back crews I have ever worked with, definitely a great vibe on set from all parties.
Director John Robertson flew in from London for the shoots and is directing the 3D animation for one of the spots. The other directors are Bonzom, and Supamonks. Bonzom who is directing the 2D spot is most notably known for their Oscar Nomination for “Persepolis” and Mika’s “Lollipop” music video. Supamonks will be directing the 2nd 3D spot. All of the directors are very talented and I cannot wait to see the outcome of the spots.
We shot all 3 spots on NYLA’s RED camera package along with the ARRI/Zeiss Masterzoom 16.5-110mm. This was my first time renting NYLA’s RED package and it will not be the last…very impressed with what they have to offer. We also rigged my I-pad to the RED to take camera notes for the VFX guys in London which proved to be VERY helpful.
I also had a couple new crew guys come on to this gig including gaffer Justyn Davis, and 1st AC Tony Segreto. My previous beast-of-a 1st AC just moved out of town so Tony had a lot to compete with, but he did his thing and I will most definitely be bringing him on for future shoots…this tuesday as a matter of fact! Justyn did a great job heading his department. Just about everyone I know recommended me to Justyn and now I can see why, the guy is a beast.
