Several months ago I (Jonathan Bregel) had the pleasure of shooting/directing/producing the band All Time Low's documentary DVD for worldwide distribution. The documentary was an idea that I personally pitched to Hopeless Records a little over a year ago and somehow/someway, they loved the idea and put it into production. The DVD is now on pre-sale and it is expected to go DVD Gold. I am very excited because this is my first worldwide DVD release as well as the first worldwide DVD release with Next Level Pictures as the production company. A little bit about the documentary production:
When my idea for the documentary was approved by the label, I then had to construct an entire concept/timeline for the documentary. Since All Time Low is a very interesting/entertaining group of guys, I really wanted to tell their backstory and rise to success. This required days and days of interviewing band members, family members, friends, gathering dozens of VHS/DV tapes, photos, and a whole bunch of other band history. This was a very time consuming process, but at the same time, an essential piece in order to accurately tell their story.
Along with all of the interviews/backstory, I also toured with the band for 53 days during their Fall 2009 headlining tour. One of the segments on the documentary deals with the touring lifestyle so it was key for me to document this. There was really no better way to show each of the band members characters then to document them for 53 days straight. I really wanted to give the viewer a real look at what its like to tour with All Time Low and this was the way to do it. I have to give a huge thanks to the band for being so cool having me around with a camera 24/7. These guys are true naturals in front of the camera, it was as if I wasn't even in the room shooting. I really think this will show through in the documentary because nothing feels scripted, fans will truly feel like they are hanging out with the band which is something very special. Again, a HUGE thanks to the band for being able to pull that off.
After everything was shot/archived, I had close to 1 terabyte of footage/materials. I spent roughly 1 week organizing everything so that my editor could focus specifically on the edit/storyline, other than sorting through thousands of clips. For the documentary edit I reached out to Noah Shulman @ Sleepless City Productions. Noah and I have collaborated on several projects in the past and I felt that his style of editing/motion graphics fit the editing style I wanted for this DVD. After 2 months of post-production, the DVD is complete and up for pre-sale.
