Just wrapped a very successful commercial shoot for proust.com with Director Diane Paragas. Proust.com is a place for families and close friends to share the stuff that really matter. Its a place to capture our life stories, thoughts, and aspirations and spark meaningful conversations about who we are. This all starts with a few compelling questions. This was my first time collaborating with Diane and I'm certain it wont be the last. I can't talk too much about the project as of yet but I can say that this was one of the most successful shoots i've had till this day. Everything from locations, lighting, & camera movements, to the script & acting worked out perfectly and we got some AMAZING footage. I cant wait to share the videos with you guys once they're released.
We shot a total of 10 spots in 3 days, in New York City, with 2 Canon 5d's, & 1 7D. A-Camera was one of our 5D packages that lived on the Fisher 11 the entire 3 days. B-camera was Clayton Combe's 7D package that was on the Kessler Cineslider. Below are a few set photos shot by Ed Chan.

Most of our coverage were portraits & lifestyle shots. We used the Zeiss ZE 85mm t1.4 & the Zeiss ZE 50mm t1.4 for mostly everything on A camera. The bokeh on these lenses is smooth, beautiful, & very distinctive and the quality of glass is incomparable with any lens of its class. I'm so happy with the way it looked that i'm considering buying a set of these. The Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS was on B-camera the entire time and was mainly used for closeups and broll.
Another essential tool that helped in making this project was Letus Direct's Talon DSLR Cage. The concept of a cage never really appealed to me as they all seamed bulky and kind of pointless. But for this Job a cage was the perfect tool as I knew we had to mount two onboard monitors, a HDMI splitter, a Blackmagic converter box, a Teradek Cube wireless transmitter, and a few other accessories. With the amount of DSLR cages that are available in the market these days its difficult to decide on which one to go with. Jon and I decided to go with Letus because they not only make our favorite 35mm adapter but their customer service is top notch. This Cage is a beast!! It takes any DSLR and morphs it into a heavy duty, rugged piece of gear that you can mount virtually anything to. We will definitely be using this cage much more on future gigs! We also got to use the Teradek Cube wifi wireless transmitter for the first time. Jonathan knows more about it than I do so he'll be updating the blog in the next few days with photos & info about it.
Our last set up of the shoot was SICK! The concept was to have photos appear as if they are floating in space. The art/effect you see below was three days in the making by our wonderful Art Director Eli Metcalf, and are actual photos from the actors in the campaign
